2015 WAS A HUGE MISTAKE LAMENTS SULLIVAN CHIME
2015 WAS A HUGE MISTAKE LAMENTS SULLIVAN CHIME: The out going governor of Enugu State, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has been challenged of not keeping to
his campaign manifesto of seamless continuity and consolidation to the residents of the state.
A former governor of the state, Mr. Sullivan Chime, made this assertion on Wednesday when he featured
on Solid Fm’s political programme, Freedom Square Extra in Enugu.
Chime said that Gov. Ugwuanyi in 2015 promised seamless continuality of good governance in the state, by completing all on-going projects started by his predecessor.
He lamented that eight years down the line, Gov. Ugwuanyi had not done anything to show he understood
what he was elected to do, as many uncompleted projects have remained untouched.
2015 WAS A HUGE MISTAKE LAMENTS SULLIVAN CHIME: THE REGRET
Chime regretted that the new state secretariat, which Arab Contractors started its construction,
has not been completed, despite procuring materials needed for its completion.
“Our government took delivery of all materials needed to complete the secretariat but almost eight years
after I left the office, those things have not been installed. The diagnostic centre I built has not been functional.
“My administration conceived the idea of building a secretariat, where workers will work with much convenience.
The secretariat has a total of 13 buildings. The project was fully funded with internal generated revenue (IGR)
and was supposed to be delivered in Nov. 2014.
THE FUTURE
“We procured and took delivery of furniture for the 13 buildings and furniture for the old house of assembly, meant to be converted to tourist site. In fact, the Secretariat was designed to be fully automated.
“The one million litres underground water tank, meant to serve the new secretariat, has not been used. If you drive around the Secretariat, you will see the four units of 1000 KV generators we procured for the Secretariat, which I learnt have not been in use since my administration installed it in 2014.
“For emphasis, the state secretariat, the state diagnostic centre and the new Government House, constructed by my administration were done with the IGR. We did not owe any contractor at the end of our tenure.
GOVERNMENT HOUSE
“On the International Conference Centre (ICC), it was a huge project that was entered into by Enugu
State government unprepared. I confirm to you that there is no plan of the building or design in the government circle.
“You can’t start public building without a copy of it in Government House or in the Ministry of Works.
The abandoned ICC will continue to remain like that because there is no plan for it”, Chime noted.
The former governor described 2015 as a huge mistake made by the residents of the state, which
must not be allowed to repeat itself in Enugu state.
