25 Countries Suspend Package Deliveries to US Amid Uncertainty Over Upcoming Tariffs

The United Nations postal agency announced on Tuesday that 25 countries have chosen to suspend their package deliveries to the United States amid growing concerns about the effects of upcoming tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump’s administration.

The Trump administration plans to eliminate a tax exemption on small packages entering the US starting August 29. This policy change has caused many postal services worldwide, including those in France, Germany, India, and Australia, to announce that they will no longer accept most packages destined for the US.

The UN’s Universal Postal Union (UPU) revealed that it has been informed by postal operators from 25 member countries that they have halted their outbound postal services to the United States. The decision stems from uncertainties, particularly regarding transit services for these packages.

According to the UPU, these suspensions will stay in effect until there is further clarity on how the US authorities intend to implement the announced measures and the required operational changes. The situation remains fluid as postal services await more detailed information on the enforcement and practical impact of the new US tariffs.
