Ohanaeze Applauds Gov. Mbah’s Landmark Transport Revolution in Enugu

The apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has praised Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State for what it described as groundbreaking achievements in transforming the state’s transport system and infrastructure. The commendation followed last Thursday’s inauguration of five state-of-the-art transport terminals across Enugu, a project seen as a cornerstone of Mbah’s vision for an integrated, modern, and multimodal transport ecosystem.

In addition to the terminals, Governor Mbah rolled out 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses out of a planned 200, launched the Enugu State Modern Transport System, and unveiled 80 bus shelters and bays spread across the state. Ohanaeze, in a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ikechukwu Bismarck Oji, on Sunday, described these steps as historic and a clear demonstration of purposeful leadership.

The organization noted that Mbah’s bold initiatives strengthen the argument for restructuring and devolution of powers, stressing that genuine development comes most effectively from state-level governance. It highlighted the governor’s simultaneous achievements across multiple sectors, citing the revival of long-dormant parastatals such as United Palm Products Limited, Hotel Presidential, and NIGERGAS.

Other notable projects under his administration include the construction of 260 Smart Green Schools, 260 modern primary healthcare centres, completion of the Enugu International Conference Centre, and the Nodsra Tractor Assembly and Service Centre. On security, Ohanaeze pointed out the establishment of the Enugu Command and Control Centre, deployment of over 150 AI-enabled surveillance vehicles, and significant progress in eliminating the once-pervasive Monday sit-at-home in the state.

The body also lauded Enugu’s pioneering role in electricity reform, becoming the first state to set up its own regulatory commission and successfully lowering electricity tariffs.

Specifically, Ohanaeze celebrated the commissioning of the new Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2, Nsukka Central Station, Abakpa Central Station, and Gariki Central Station, describing them as facilities that could compete with transport hubs anywhere in the world. It urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure and ensure its proper use.

Governor Mbah himself emphasized that the new transport system goes beyond ribbon-cutting ceremonies, calling it a bold leap towards making Enugu a modern, globally competitive city. According to him, the initiative is already creating over 20,000 jobs in the state, stimulating small businesses, and positioning Enugu for rapid economic growth.
