The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a significant upward review of fees for the Nigerian standard passport, with the new rates scheduled to take effect from September 1, 2025.
In a statement released by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, the agency confirmed that the new charges would apply only to applications processed within Nigeria. According to the NIS, the adjustment is necessary to sustain the integrity of the passport and improve efficiency in service delivery.
The NIS assured citizens that it remains committed to balancing efficient service with affordability, emphasizing that the reforms are designed to strengthen the quality of the Nigerian passport, which is widely recognized as a critical travel and identity document.
Meanwhile, in Enugu, the State Government has announced a directive for the retrieval of Official and Diplomatic Passports issued to former political appointees whose appointments have either expired or been terminated. Acting on instructions from the NIS Headquarters, Abuja, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, directed all concerned individuals to return the passports to his office at Government House, Enugu, on or before September 5, 2025.
