The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has officially announced that local government council elections across the state will be conducted on Saturday, September 26, 2026. This declaration, made in line with the provisions of Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, as well as the ENSIEC Law Cap 59 of the Revised Laws of Enugu State 2004, the Independent Electoral (Amendment) Law 2024, and the Local Government Law 2020, sets the stage for political parties and candidates to begin preparations ahead of the polls.

According to the notice, ENSIEC, as mandated by law, has the authority to organize, supervise, and oversee the smooth conduct of all elections into local government councils in Enugu State. The Commission emphasized that its responsibility is to ensure that the entire process is transparent, credible, and reflective of the will of the people in line with democratic principles.
As part of the electoral process, all political parties intending to field candidates have been directed to submit duly completed nomination forms. These documents must be delivered to the Commission’s headquarters, located at No. 3, Achi Street, Independence Layout, Enugu. ENSIEC further stressed the importance of compliance with the stipulated procedures and timelines, as this will enable the electoral body to effectively coordinate and validate the eligibility of candidates before the elections.
The announcement has now put political stakeholders, aspirants, and their supporters on alert, as campaigns, mobilization, and other preparations are expected to intensify in the months leading up to September 2026.
