The Enugu State Government has announced that recruitment screening for the Enugu State Forest Guard Corps, also known as the Nigeria Forest Security Guard Corps, will hold from September 15 to 20, 2025. The exercise will take place across all 17 local government areas and at the state headquarters in Enugu.

According to officials, the process is designed to be community-driven, with traditional rulers, youth leaders, religious representatives, security agencies, and health officials actively participating. The government urged applicants and community leaders to fully cooperate, stressing that the initiative will boost security, protect forests, and safeguard rural livelihoods.

RECRUITMENT SCREENING COMMENCES — 15TH TO 20TH SEPTEMBER 2025

 

The Enugu State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has approved the commencement of the recruitment screening exercise for the Enugu State Forest Guard Corps (ESFG), also known as the Nigeria Forest Security Guard Corps, Enugu State Command.

 

The exercise will run from Monday, 15th September 2025 to Saturday, 20th September 2025, across all 17 Local Government Areas of the State and at the Forest Guard State Headquarters, Enugu.

 

This recruitment process marks a historic milestone in strengthening Enugu’s internal security architecture, safeguarding forests and farmlands, and enhancing the safety and livelihoods of rural communities.

 

Screening Schedule

Phase 1: Local Government Screening

 

• Dates: Monday, 15th – Wednesday, 17th September 2025

 

• Venue: Local Government Council Headquarters (simultaneously across all 17 LGAs.

 

• Focus: Verification of guarantor forms, community attestations, physical and medical fitness checks, documentation, and background validation.

 

Phase 2: Final Headquarters Screening

 

• Dates: Thursday, 18th – Saturday, 20th September 2025

 

• Venue: Enugu State Forest Guard Headquarters, Enugu

 

• Focus: Senior-level verification, biometric capture, and oath form completion (under the supervision of the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Chief Judge of Enugu State), leading to the production of the final shortlist for training.

 

Roles of Communities and Leaders

 

The recruitment is designed as a community-driven and transparent process. Accordingly:

 

• Traditional Rulers, Presidents-General of Town Unions, and Youth Leaders will verify the origin, residency, and integrity of applicants.

 

• CAN and PFN representatives will serve as moral observers to reinforce fairness and credibility.

 

• ⁠• Health officials from the Ministry of Health will conduct medical and physical fitness checks.

 

• ⁠• Security agencies — Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and NSCDC — will supervise and ensure strict adherence to procedures.

 

Supporting Documents and Forms

 

To ensure uniformity, the following documents have been circulated to stakeholders:

 

• Annex A: Screening Guidelines

• Annex B: Committee Membership Framework

• Eligibility Requirements Document

 

All screening forms have been dispatched to the 17 LGAs for issuance under the joint supervision of the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Local Government DSS Officers, and Forest Guard Sector Officers.

 

In addition, already serving Forest Guard personnel are required to complete these forms for proper documentation and confirmation of their appointments, beginning 11th September 2025.

 

Objectives of the Screening

 

• To ensure only credible, medically fit applicants are admitted.

• To guarantee that candidates are indigenes and residents of their respective communities.

• To exclude individuals with criminal records or questionable backgrounds.

• To uphold transparency, fairness, and accountability at all stages.

• To demonstrate the collective discipline of security and community stakeholders in Enugu State.

 

Call for Public Cooperation

The Enugu State Government calls on:

 

• All applicants to report promptly at their designated LGA headquarters with required forms, documents, and identification.

• Community leaders and the public to give full support and cooperation to the Sub-Screening Committees.

• Security and health officials to discharge their duties with professionalism, integrity, and diligence.

 

This recruitment represents a major step forward in building a professional, accountable, and community-oriented Forest Guard Service that will complement the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, and other security agencies in protecting lives, property, and the environment in Enugu State.
