Governor Alex Otti Welcomes Key PDP Members to Labour Party in Abia State

In a major political development in Abia State, Governor Dr. Alex Otti officially welcomed prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isialangwa South into the Labour Party. The event, held on Tuesday in Isieketa, marked a significant shift in the local political landscape.

Among the new entrants were influential PDP figures such as Gershon Amuta, the party’s leader in Isialangwa South, Chief Chinagorom Nwankpa, and hundreds of their loyal supporters. Their move to the Labour Party was celebrated as a homecoming rather than a defection, according to Governor Otti.

“This isn’t just about crossing from one party to another,” the Governor said. “This is about welcoming back our brothers and sisters—some of whom have supported us from the beginning. We’re simply making it official today.”

Governor Otti reiterated the Labour Party’s open-door philosophy, stressing that all members, regardless of when they join, are treated equally. “Whether you joined years ago or today, you have the same rights and recognition. There are no second-class members in our party,” he said.

He also gave a direct order to all Mayors to ensure new members are fully integrated and respected within the party. “I don’t want to hear that anyone feels left out or unwelcomed. Everyone must be embraced as family,” he insisted.

During the gathering, Governor Otti shared some good news about development in the region. He announced that full-scale work would begin soon on the Okpualangwa General Hospital, with a top-tier contractor already mobilized. The hospital is expected to be completed in six to nine months, delivering modern health services to the community.

He thanked the people for their steadfast support and promised not to slow down. “We’ll keep working every day of this administration. If your road hasn’t been fixed yet, don’t worry—we’re coming,” he assured the crowd.

Several dignitaries praised the Governor’s leadership, including Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Ginger Onwusigwe, and Hon. Dennis Chinwendu Rowland. They expressed confidence in his reelection prospects in 2027, citing the growing strength of the party and the quality of leaders joining it.

New Labour Party members such as Hon. Barr. Remijus Nji, Edwin Ihejirika, Sir Patrick Njoku, and Lady Gloria Agomuo pointed to Governor Otti’s performance in office as their reason for switching parties. They pledged their full support for his administration and his 2027 re-election campaign.

The event drew a host of notable personalities, including former Deputy Governor Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Chief of Staff Pastor Caleb Ajagba, former Secretary to the State Government Dr. Emeh Okoro, and traditional ruler HRM Eze Nelson Nmeregwa.
