Enugu Power Outage: MEDL Clarifies 10-Day Schedule, Assures Improved Service

Residents of Enugu State have recently raised concerns following reports suggesting that parts of the state capital could experience a prolonged 10-day power outage. However, the MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has issued a clarification to ease public anxiety, stating that the power interruption will not span continuously for 10 days. Instead, it will take place in phases, with different areas of the city being affected on specific days as part of a structured maintenance schedule.

According to a statement released by Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at MEDL, the temporary power disruptions are connected to rehabilitation and reinforcement works currently being undertaken by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at its New Haven Station in Enugu. These maintenance activities, the company explained, are part of efforts to strengthen and modernize the electricity supply infrastructure in the state.

The exercise is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 22, and conclude on Thursday, October 31, 2025. The daily outages will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., affecting specific 33KV feeders on each day. The feeders expected to be impacted during the maintenance include Kingsway Line 1 and 2, Emene Industrial Line 1 and 2, Thinkers Corner, Trans-Ekulu, Ugwuogo, and Ituku Ozalla.

Clarifying further, MEDL stated that the scheduled work will focus on one feeder per day. Consequently, customers will only experience power interruptions on the specific day their area is being worked on. The maintenance will commence with Kingsway Line 1 on October 22, followed by Emene Industrial Line 1 on October 23, Thinkers Corner on October 24, and Trans-Ekulu on October 25. On October 26, Kingsway Line 2 and 9th Mile areas will be affected, while Emene Industrial Line 2 will undergo maintenance on October 28. The exercise will continue with Ugwuogo on October 29 and will conclude with Ituku Ozalla on October 31, 2025.

Ezeh emphasized that the project is crucial for improving power reliability and efficiency across Enugu metropolis. He assured residents that these temporary outages are necessary sacrifices toward achieving a stronger and more stable electricity network in the city.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause our valued customers and appeal for their patience and cooperation,” the statement read. “This maintenance is designed to enhance service delivery and ensure more consistent power supply once the project is completed.”

MEDL further encouraged residents to plan their daily activities accordingly during the maintenance period, reiterating that the long-term benefits will outweigh the short-term discomfort. The company assured that once the upgrade is finalized, consumers across Enugu will experience a notable improvement in electricity supply quality and reliability.
