The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that he ranks as Nigeria’s second most verbally attacked politician, coming only after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike made this remark on Saturday while attending a thanksgiving service held at the country residence of Chibudom Nwuche, Chairman of the South-South Development Commission and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The event took place in Ochigba community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, and was organised by Nwuche and his family.
During a brief interaction with political leaders from Ahoada East LGA, the minister attributed the constant criticism directed at him to his firm stance on political agreements, noting that he has consistently refused to abandon or dilute commitments he entered into.
According to Wike, his unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu has been clear and unbroken. He stressed that, aside from the president, no other politician has faced as much abuse as he has. He reiterated that his support for Tinubu had never faltered, even at difficult moments.
The FCT minister also rejected claims by some political figures who have recently presented themselves as long-time supporters of President Tinubu. Wike questioned their credibility, arguing that many of those now professing loyalty were nowhere to be found during the crucial stages of the 2023 general elections.
In his remarks, Nwuche reaffirmed the allegiance of political leaders in Rivers State to Wike, describing him as a dependable leader who has consistently stood by his allies. He emphasized that leaders across the state would continue to back the former Rivers State governor, citing his consistency, reliability, and commitment to development as reasons for the widespread trust and respect he enjoys in the region.
Nwuche concluded by assuring that Wike’s political choices have always been guided by loyalty to agreements and the collective progress of the state.
