The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has relieved the Divisional Officer in charge of the Fagge Division of her duties following the death of a suspect in custody.
In addition, the command has transferred the affected divisional officer, along with all personnel who were on duty at the time of the incident, to the Kano State Police Command to enable a comprehensive investigation and any further action deemed necessary.
This development was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Kano State, Ibrahim Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the action was taken after the command constituted a panel of inquiry to carry out an impartial and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Abdullahi disclosed that the State Commandant of the NSCDC in Kano, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, approved the removal of the Fagge Divisional Officer, Superintendent of Corps Amina Musa Kolawale, following the unfortunate death of the suspect at the divisional office.
He further revealed that Chief Superintendent of Corps Bashir Isa Abubakar has been appointed as the new Divisional Officer to take over leadership of the Fagge Division.
The NSCDC also called on members of the public to remain calm and continue to promote peaceful coexistence, while reaffirming its commitment to the protection of human life and the observance of human rights.
The command emphasized its dedication to professionalism, adherence to standard operating procedures, integrity and the rule of law, assuring residents that appropriate measures would be taken to address the matter.
It was also noted that the NSCDC had earlier set up an investigative committee to probe the death of a volunteer support staff member at the Fagge divisional office.
