NUC Approves 11 New Degree Programmes for Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu

—– Says the Institution fulfilled all relevant requirements necessary for the approval of the programmes.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the establishment of eleven new undergraduate academic programmes at the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, Enugu State.

 

The approval was conveyed in an official letter dated 21st January, 2025, signed by the Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu.

 

According to the letter, the approval followed a resource assessment and verification visit conducted by a panel of experts to evaluate the university’s human and material resources for the proposed programmes. The Commission confirmed that the institution met the requirements necessary for the commencement of the programmes.

 

The newly approved programmes are to be run in full-time mode at the university’s main campus, with effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.

 

The approved programmes include:

B.Sc. Biotechnology

B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence

B.Sc. Software Engineering

B.Eng. Electrical and Electronics Engineering

B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering

B.Eng. Mechatronics Engineering

B.Sc. Alternative and Complementary Medicine

B.Sc. Parasitology and Entomology

B.Sc. Water and Sanitation Hygiene

B.Sc. Community Health

B.Sc. Occupational Therapy

 

The Commission, however, clarified that the approval does not cover part-time programmes. It noted that any request to commence part-time undergraduate programmes must be formally forwarded to the NUC for further consideration and approval.

 

The NUC also emphasized that the university must adhere strictly to the approved programme titles and nomenclature, stressing that any modification would require prior approval from the Commission. In addition, the university was enjoined to continue providing adequate human and material resources to support the effective development and sustainability of the approved programmes.

 

The approval is expected to significantly expand academic offerings at the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, particularly in the areas of health sciences, engineering, and emerging technology, while strengthening the institution’s contribution to national manpower development.

Many residents of the community said that they can’t wait to see work started at the permanent site and expressed their appreciation to the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the approval of the permanent site at Obeagu community, Awgu Local Government Area.
