Enugu Police Arrest 52 Suspects, Rescue Three Kidnap Victims in One Week

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 52 suspects, recovered weapons and ammunition, and rescued three kidnap victims during operations carried out between January 24 and January 30.

This was disclosed in the command’s weekly crime report released on Saturday in Enugu by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe.

According to Ndukwe, those currently in custody include three suspected armed robbers, 12 kidnapping suspects, and three individuals linked to homicide cases. He also said the police arrested two suspects over alleged rape and defilement, four suspected cultists, and 28 others for various criminal offences across different parts of the state.

He added that during the period under review, officers recovered one firearm, 20 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, and six stolen vehicles. The police also rescued three victims who had been kidnapped, following sustained intelligence-driven operations.

Other items recovered included hard drugs and a large quantity of substances believed to be Indian hemp, highlighting the command’s intensified efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the state.

Ndukwe attributed the successes recorded to the dedication of police personnel, improved intelligence gathering, and strong collaboration with other security agencies as well as members of the public.

He assured residents that the police remain committed to sustaining the fight against crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Enugu State.

The police spokesman also called on citizens to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and reliable information to aid proactive policing and swift response to criminal activities.
