Governor Peter Mbah Deserves Second Term — Hon. Okwudili Chukwuobasi Applauds Infrastructure Boom in Enugu State

—— Expresses optimism that Enugu is on track to becoming a modern economic hub in the Southeast.

Member Enugu House of Assembly (2019-2023), Public Affairs Commentator and Entrepreneur, Hon. Johnson Okwudili Chukwuobasi, made this known on Tuesday, 17th February, 2026, while speaking on the topic “Disruptive Economic Transformation: Growing Enugu’s GDP from $4.4Bn to $30Bn and the Need for 4+4 for Governor Peter Mbah,” on the programme, Beyond the Headlines on Freedom Square TV, anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.

Hon. Chukwuobasi, threw his weight behind Governor Peter Mbah, declaring that the massive wave of infrastructure development across Enugu State justifies a second term in office.

Chukwuobasi praised the governor’s administration for what he described as a “visible transformation” of the state through quality road networks, modern school facilities, healthcare upgrades, and renewed urban development.

According to him, “the last two years and Nine months of Governor Peter Mbah has been rewarding to Enugu State. My honest assessment assuming he is in the classroom and I am supposed to grade him. I am going to grade him 9/10 because he has done well. If you look at what we had in Enugu State before now, you will see that he hasn’t done abysmally. He has been doing well ranging from his innovations, leading to E-governance, the innovations in agriculture through the smart farms and smart schools and the disruptive change in all the governance in Enugu State, including expanding the revenue by widening the net. Governor Peter Mbah has not done badly and if I am to grade him, he should have 4/4, if some others that followed him were given that opportunity, he deserve such opportunity too. Like I said he has done well, he has not done badly. When you say somebody has not performed badly, it means that the person has performed creditably. If you look at what he inherited in 2023 and now, you will see that there is a wide difference from what we use to have. He has rijigged the economy, you see people entering into Enugu to invest . Just a fourth night ago, he commissioned a high tech that came into Enugu to establish. When last did we see that? So you can’t give a dog a bad name in other to hang it. The governor has done his own bit and I think he deserves a second tenure like his predecessors.”

He noted that the ongoing projects have not only enhanced mobility but also created jobs and restored public confidence in governance.

“Governor Mbah has shown uncommon commitment to development. From rural roads to smart schools and healthcare centres, the evidence is everywhere. Enugu is wearing a new look,” Chukwuobasi said.

Commenting on the budget, in his words “Governor Mbah has shown that Enugu State has the capacity to expense such money and generate such money. If you look at the budget of all the states in Nigeria, Enugu State is around the sixth or first six apart from Lagos who has up to 41 trillion in its budget. Enugu State has shown that he has the capacity to move Enugu State from that 4 billion dollars economy to around 30 billion dollars economy. For instance, before this administration came onboard, we use to generate between 36 to 37 billion naira as internally generated revenue but now he has moved it between 2023-2024 from 36 to 37 billion naira, covering around that margin to around 144 billion naira. So that is a tremendous achievement. If you look at it , it is over 120%. He has given us a budget of 1.6 trillion naira as a budget of momentum. Internally generated revenue has widened and it has improved tremendously. Governor Peter Mbah is an ambitious man,” Chukwuobasi stated.

He therefore added that continuity was crucial to fully consolidate the gains already recorded, urging citizens to support the governor’s long-term development vision.
