The Greater Awgu Media Professionals (GAMP) has commended the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for what it described as people-oriented programmes that have positively impacted residents across the state, particularly in the Greater Awgu area.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in Enugu, hosted by Chief Uchenna Cyril Anioke, Ph.D. at his Enugu residence on 15th March, 2026, the group said it reviewed recent developments affecting the socio-economic progress of the state and the Greater Awgu region.
The media professionals commended the governor’s vision to rehabilitate the Awgu Games Village, which had suffered years of neglect and abandonment.
The association expressed optimism that the facility would be completed ahead of the National Sports Festival scheduled to be hosted by Enugu State in November 2026.
According to the group, the reconstruction of the Games Village would position Awgu as a key venue for sporting activities during the festival and help stimulate local economic activity.
GAMP also welcomed the governor’s promise to construct a bus terminal in Awgu, noting that the project would significantly improve transportation and facilitate easier movement of agricultural produce, goods and services in the agrarian community.
However, the group appealed to the state government to consider establishing similar bus terminals in Oji River and Aninri local government areas to enhance transportation access and economic activities in the wider Greater Awgu axis.
The meeting also acknowledged the establishment of a private university, Kevin Ezeh University, in Awgu Local Government Area and congratulated the proprietor, Chief Kevin Ezeh, for what it described as foresight in creating an institution that would contribute to the socio-economic development of the area.
While expressing appreciation to the governor for approving the reconstruction of the Awgu Games Village as one of the venues for the forthcoming National Sports Festival, the group urged the state government to accelerate the pace of work to ensure timely completion.
The group further appealed to Governor Mbah to expedite the rehabilitation of the road leading to the Games Village, particularly the old road linking Akinukwa Junction on the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway to the Awgu Local Government headquarters, to ensure easy access for athletes, officials and visitors during the sporting event.
Reaffirming its support for the administration of Governor Mbah, the association pledged continued collaboration with the state government in promoting policies and initiatives that would enhance development across the Greater Awgu area and Enugu State in general.
The communiqué was signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Rejis Anukwuoji, and the Secretary, Comrade Austine Nwabueze.
