Muhammad Sanusi II to Lead Kano Eid Durbar as Kano State Government Tightens Security Measures

The Kano State Government has announced that the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, will preside over this year’s Eid-el-Fitr durbar despite prevailing security concerns in the state.

This was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, who explained that the decision was reached after consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other relevant stakeholders.

Waiya revealed that security intelligence had uncovered plans by certain individuals to disrupt the festivities, prompting the government to implement precautionary measures aimed at safeguarding lives and maintaining order throughout the celebration period.

He emphasised that while the state government remains dedicated to preserving its longstanding cultural traditions, it will not do so at the expense of public safety, peace, and the protection of lives and property.

According to him, the traditional Hawan Idi durbar will proceed under the leadership of Emir Sanusi, beginning from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground and moving along approved routes to Gidan Shettima, before concluding at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.

Waiya further noted that the Hawan Nasarawa procession will still take place, though in an adjusted format that excludes horseback displays as part of safety precautions.

However, he confirmed that several other customary events, including Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi, have been suspended due to the current security situation.

The commissioner added that security agencies have been placed on heightened alert and instructed to strengthen monitoring efforts before, during, and after the celebrations to ensure compliance with the government’s directives.

He also appealed to residents to remain peaceful, obey the law, and avoid spreading unverified information, assuring that all necessary steps are being taken to guarantee a safe and smooth Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Waiya concluded by extending goodwill messages to Muslims across the state, wishing them a joyful and peaceful Sallah celebration.
