The Nigeria Immigration Service has launched an investigation into allegations circulating online about widespread extortion by its personnel along the Lagos-Seme border route.
In response, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, directed the immediate suspension of the comptrollers in charge of the affected commands to allow for an impartial and thorough inquiry.
According to a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Comptroller General strongly condemned the reported misconduct, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the core principles and operational standards of the agency.
The NIS leadership has ordered a comprehensive investigation to identify all officers implicated in the alleged acts, assuring that swift disciplinary action will be taken against anyone found culpable.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professionalism and efficiency at all entry and exit points across the country, stressing that any behaviour that undermines public trust or damages the institution’s reputation will not be tolerated.
To enhance accountability, the Service urged members of the public to report cases of misconduct through its 24-hour contact lines and official social media platforms, noting that internal systems are being strengthened to ensure transparency.
Akinlabi added that the initiative underscores the agency’s resolve to promote lawful migration while upholding strict discipline and professionalism across its operations.
