African Democratic Congress Youth Wing Slams Atiku Abubakar Over “Ambition-Driven” Remarks Ahead of Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Youth Council has strongly criticised recent remarks made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing them as a reflection of personal ambition rather than responsible leadership.

Atiku had earlier spoken during an interview on Arise TV, where he discussed his political journey, future aspirations, and the prospects of the ADC ahead of the next presidential election. However, his comments have drawn backlash from within the party’s youth wing.

In a statement issued by Mallam Mohammed Rabiu, the council expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that Atiku’s remarks could undermine efforts to build a strong coalition. The group pointed to ongoing political tensions in Adamawa State as an example of what it described as weak leadership, noting that unresolved disputes have left prominent figures such as Aisha Binani and Ishaku Abbo dissatisfied and possibly considering their future in the party.

The council criticised Atiku for not taking proactive steps to resolve internal disagreements, alleging that he had failed to engage key stakeholders while aligning with figures like Babachir Lawal. It argued that leadership should begin at the grassroots level, especially within one’s home state.

Additionally, the group insisted that ongoing legal disputes involving Nafiu Bala Gombe must be addressed before discussions about political strength or popularity can be taken seriously.

The youth council further suggested that Atiku, given his age and experience, should act as a unifying figure and mentor rather than compete for power. It also called on other political figures, including Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi, to remain focused and avoid engaging in public disputes.

The statement concluded by warning that excessive ambition could threaten the unity of the emerging coalition, adding that Atiku’s recent actions risk creating deeper divisions within the party at a critical time.
