The Sokoto State Government has applauded security agencies for recent breakthroughs in the fight against banditry, describing the successes as a major boost to ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the state.
At the same time, the government paid tribute to five security personnel who lost their lives during separate operations against criminal elements, describing them as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
The Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, retired Col. Ahmed Usman, conveyed the government’s position in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that recent operations carried out by the military, police and other security agencies had resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims and the neutralisation of several bandits operating in different parts of the state.
According to him, the achievements demonstrate the commitment and determination of security operatives who continue to confront criminal groups despite difficult and dangerous conditions.
“The recent operational successes recorded by our security agencies are encouraging and demonstrate their unwavering determination to protect lives and secure our communities,” Usman stated.
He commended the courage and resilience displayed by security personnel on the frontlines and urged them not to relent in the ongoing campaign against banditry and other forms of criminality threatening the state’s peace and stability.
The security adviser stressed that sustained pressure on criminal groups remained necessary to consolidate the gains already recorded and prevent the resurgence of bandit activities in affected communities.
While celebrating the operational victories, Usman acknowledged the painful losses suffered by security agencies in the course of their duties.
He expressed deep sorrow over the death of three soldiers who reportedly lost their lives when their operational vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Isa–Bargaja axis during a mission.
The government also sympathised with the Nigeria Police Force following the killing of two police officers in an ambush allegedly carried out by bandits in Tureta Local Government Area.
Describing the fallen personnel as gallant officers who served their country with honour and dedication, Usman said their sacrifices would continue to inspire future generations of security operatives.
“These brave men made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fatherland. Their dedication, patriotism and courage will remain a source of inspiration, and their sacrifices will never be forgotten,” he said.
He extended the government’s condolences to the families of the deceased officers, as well as to the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, praying for eternal rest for the fallen personnel and strength for their loved ones during the period of mourning.
The government’s tribute comes amid intensified military and security operations across Sokoto State and other parts of the North-West region, where authorities have stepped up efforts to dismantle bandit hideouts, rescue kidnapped victims and strengthen security in communities affected by criminal activities.
Residents in several parts of the region have continued to express hope that the renewed offensive against armed groups will lead to lasting peace and allow normal social and economic activities to flourish once again.
