Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved scholarships for more than 760 beneficiaries under the state’s 2025/2026 Local Scholarship Scheme, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and strengthening human capital development.
The Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, Chukwuemeka Mbah, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu.
He said the beneficiaries were selected from the 17 local government areas of the state and across various fields of study, comprising over 500 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students and 160 public sector teachers.
According to him, successful applicants who passed the Computer-Based Test (CBT) have begun receiving text messages and emails inviting them for verification and documentation, which will be conducted on a local government-by-local government basis.
Mbah said the scholarship scheme underscores Governor Peter Mbah’s determination to invest in education, empower young people and equip the state’s workforce with the knowledge and skills required to drive sustainable development.
He urged beneficiaries to respond promptly to the notifications to ensure a seamless verification process.
According to him, the scholarship programme remains one of the flagship education initiatives of the Mbah administration, designed to ensure that financial challenges do not prevent qualified residents from pursuing higher education.
He also assured residents that the programme would continue to expand, revealing that additional beneficiaries would be accommodated in the next phase.
“More beneficiaries will be captured in the next phase of the scholarship programme. It’s open to the people of Enugu State, and I want to urge our people to continue to apply.
“This is not the time to say you’re unable to get quality education because of funding. The governor has made it easy for our people to access free, quality education,” he said.
The Enugu State Government has continued to prioritise education as a cornerstone of its development agenda through increased investment in school infrastructure, digital learning facilities, teacher capacity development and scholarship programmes aimed at improving access to quality education across the state.
