PORT HARCOURT, NIGERIA President Bola Tinubu has announced that the federal government will integrate advanced emerging technologies and intelligence-led operations into its defense strategy to neutralize modern security threats and safeguard Nigerian citizens.
The President’s commitment was delivered by Vice-President Kashim Shettima during the joint grand finale of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and the African Land Forces Forum (ALFF) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
President Tinubu emphasized that his administration is actively modernizing Nigeria’s military infrastructure by purchasing advanced military hardware and enhancing tactical personnel training. This strategic focus aims to significantly improve combat readiness and operational planning across all defense sectors.
To complement these technological upgrades, the President highlighted ongoing efforts to revitalize the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). By prioritizing local defense production, research, and development, the administration aims to strengthen domestic military independence and minimize reliance on imported weaponry.
The President noted that Nigeria’s collaboration with the African Land Forces Forum serves as a critical platform to deepen continental defense alliances, spark innovation, and cement the nation’s leadership in regional security diplomacy.
In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu confirmed that the joint event successfully met its goals of driving regional cooperation, strategic dialogue, and innovative security solutions across Africa.
President Tinubu extended deep appreciation to the armed forces for their dedication, stating that their counter-terrorism and security operations protect Nigeria while making a vital contribution to international peace and stability.
Concluding his address, the President paid tribute to fallen heroes, reassured their families that their ultimate sacrifices would always be remembered, and pledged continued administrative support for military personnel.
