Ebonyi Police Command Insists on Autopsy for Domestic Worker Found Dead at Minister David Umahi’s Residence

The Ebonyi State Police Command has firmly declared its intention to conduct a comprehensive autopsy on the body of Mary Habila, a young domestic worker who died under mysterious circumstances at the country home of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi. This decision stands despite strong objections from the deceased’s family, who have actively requested that her remains be released to them for immediate burial. The police command has maintained that a scientific investigation is absolutely crucial to unraveling the true cause of her sudden demise and ensuring justice.

Mary Habila’s body was discovered at the minister’s country home located in Uburu, within the Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. The shocking discovery immediately triggered widespread speculation and concern across the state, given the high-profile nature of the property where she was employed. Following the incident, the police took custody of the body and deposited it in a mortuary, initiating a formal investigation into the tragic event to determine if there was any foul play involved.

Representatives of the Habila family reportedly approached the law enforcement authorities, pleading to bypass the post-mortem examination. The family expressed a desire to avoid a prolonged legal or medical process, stating they wished to lay their daughter to rest in peace without further delay. However, the police command explained that the highly sensitive environment of the death makes a forensic autopsy legally and socially indispensable.

Officials emphasized that without a clear, medically certified cause of death, the investigation cannot be closed, and the police cannot legally release the body. By insisting on a rigorous forensic examination, the police aim to ensure absolute transparency, prevent any miscarriage of justice, and protect the integrity of the investigative process. Law enforcement authorities have assured the public that the investigation will be carried out with the utmost professionalism, and the final autopsy results will be used to guide all subsequent legal actions.
