UK Opens Applications for 2026 Chevening Scholarship, Offers Fully Funded Master’s Degrees

The United Kingdom Government has announced that applications for the 2026 Chevening Scholarship will officially open on August 4, 2026, offering outstanding Nigerians and other eligible candidates the opportunity to pursue fully funded one-year master’s degree programmes at universities across the United Kingdom.

The scholarship, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in partnership with various organisations, is designed for professionals who have demonstrated leadership potential and are committed to driving positive change in their communities and countries.

According to the UK Government, applications will remain open until October 6, 2026.

Established in 1983, the Chevening Scholarship is the UK’s flagship international scholarship programme, supporting exceptional individuals from more than 140 countries and territories to undertake postgraduate studies at eligible UK universities.

Over the years, the programme has produced more than 60,000 alumni worldwide, many of whom now occupy leadership positions in government, business, academia, civil society and international organisations.

Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive funding package covering full tuition fees for an eligible master’s programme, monthly living expenses, return economy airfare to the United Kingdom, arrival and departure allowances, as well as travel grants to attend approved Chevening events.

Recipients will also benefit from exclusive networking opportunities, leadership development programmes and lifelong membership of the global Chevening alumni network.

The UK Government said the scholarship is open to professionals who demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills, possess excellent networking abilities, and have a proven commitment to contributing to sustainable development and creating meaningful change within their communities.

Applicants are also expected to meet the programme’s academic and general eligibility requirements.

As part of its commitment to diversity and inclusion, the UK Government encouraged applications from individuals belonging to under-represented groups.

The Chevening Scholarship remains one of the world’s most competitive international scholarship programmes, providing future leaders with access to world-class education while fostering long-term partnerships between the United Kingdom and participating countries.
