Nigerian rapper and actor, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has advised young people not to rush into marriage before the age of 30, saying the period before then should be devoted to self-discovery, personal growth and life experiences.

The 35-year-old entertainer gave the advice during an appearance on The BTS Reality Podcast, where he spoke on relationships, maturity and the societal pressure many young people face to settle down at an early age.

According to Falz, people in their 20s are still discovering who they are while working towards emotional, mental and financial stability, making it a period better suited for learning and personal development than lifelong commitments.

He said individuals often gain greater clarity about their identity, goals and future direction in their 30s, which better prepares them for the responsibilities and demands of marriage.

The rapper urged young people not to allow pressure from family members, friends or society to dictate when they should get married, stressing that marriage should be entered into only when one feels adequately prepared.

“Getting married in your 30s is the best. Don’t let anyone pressure you into getting married before 30. By your 30s, you have gained more life experiences. In your 20s, you are still figuring yourself out,” Falz said.

“Your 20s are for learning, growing, and enjoying life. In your 30s, you combine all the knowledge and try to direct your life. So, it is better to wait till your 30s before getting married.”

His comments have added to ongoing conversations about changing attitudes toward marriage, career development and personal growth among young Nigerians, with many increasingly choosing to prioritise education, careers and self-development before settling down.
