Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has confirmed that negotiations over a contract extension with the Bundesliga champions are expected to begin soon, with his current deal set to expire in 2027.
Kane made the disclosure on Monday during a media day in Munich, saying discussions had been delayed following his return from a post-World Cup holiday but would now commence.
“I’m not sure exactly when, but they’ll start this week or next week,” Kane said when asked about the proposed extension.
“We’re calm, they’re calm with the situation. Obviously now’s the time to start talking, because with only a year left it’s important.
“But both sides are relaxed and I’m pretty sure there’ll be talks this week or next week.”
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 on a four-year contract and has since established himself as one of the club’s most prolific players.
The England captain has helped Bayern win two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup, while also reaching the Champions League semi-finals in two of his three seasons with the club.
He has scored 146 goals in 147 appearances across all competitions for Bayern, underlining his importance to the German champions.
Bayern have repeatedly expressed their desire to retain the striker, with the club describing Kane as their “best transfer ever” at the end of last season.
Reports in the German media suggest that any new agreement could keep Kane at Bayern until at least 2029.
The contract discussions come amid growing recognition of Kane’s performances during the past season. German World Cup winner Lothar Matthaeus has backed the striker as a leading candidate for the Ballon d’Or, which is scheduled to be awarded in October.
Matthaeus, who won the prestigious individual award in 1991, said Kane deserved the honour following a remarkable campaign in which he scored 61 goals in 51 matches.
“Kane delivered outstanding performances and, in my opinion, didn’t have a single weak spell,” Matthaeus wrote in his column for Sky Germany.
Kane and Bayern will next turn their attention to the new season, with the Bundesliga champions scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund in the season-opening Supercup on Saturday.
