PRESS STATEMENT
Office of the Media Aide to Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa
NDC Governorship Candidate, Enugu State
10th October, 2026
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State under the leadership of our Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and Governorship Candidate, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, strongly condemns the violent and coordinated attacks launched against our members and supporters today, Saturday, 10th October 2026, during the Grand Statewide Campaign Flag-Off.

This morning, thousands of NDC members, supporters of the Obidient Movement, and the Kwankwasiya group gathered at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, to welcome Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa. Airport security refused them entry. In the full presence of the police and other security operatives, thugs launched a vicious attack, smashing people’s heads, bodies, and vehicles. Many cars were destroyed.

Worse still, the police threw tear gas at peaceful NDC members and also released several gunshots at the airport, causing panic and injury among our supporters.

One of our members, Mr. Moses Arisi, sustained serious head injuries with blood gushing from his head. A journalist from Signature TV was brutally attacked, pushed to the ground, and his phone seized. Other journalists covering the event were also assaulted.

Undeterred, our members moved in a massive convoy to the campaign office of Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa at GRA, Enugu. The turnout was overwhelming. Almost all NDC candidates in Enugu State, the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Prof. Ene Nwannaji, and thousands of supporters were present.
In the middle of the peaceful gathering, gunshots suddenly rang out as hoodlums invaded the venue in an attempt to kill our members. Several people were shot. Among those who sustained gunshot injuries are three members of the Kwankwasiya group:
Umar Abdulkarim
Muhammad Musa
Hassan Gora
One of our members was shot and left lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the hospital. Our members courageously resisted the attackers and chased them away. The programme continued and ended with even greater resolve.
Later in the evening, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa addressed the press at his residence. He called on the elders and former governors of Enugu State to remind the current administration that it is their sacred duty to protect the lives and property of Ndi Enugu.
Reacting to the attacks, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa said:
“Today’s attack at the airport and at our campaign office shows the level of desperation and fear in the camp of those in power. They are afraid of the people. They are afraid of the truth. But no amount of violence will stop the will of Ndi Enugu. We will continue this journey peacefully, lawfully, and with even greater determination until victory is secured in 2027.”
He further declared during the flag-off:
“I am in this race on a clear and uncompromising mandate: to rescue Enugu State for Ndi Enugu through an issue-based campaign… Governance must serve the people, not oppress them.”
“We will not be intimidated. The NDC remains resolute. This is a Rescue Mission for Ndi Enugu, and it will succeed.”
We call on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and all relevant security agencies to immediately investigate these attacks, arrest the perpetrators and their sponsors, and bring them to justice. The lives of our members matter.
Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa and the NDC remain firmly committed to the MEGA agenda — Make Enugu Great Again. No amount of thuggery or intimidation will stop the march of the people.
Signed:
Hon. Sampson Ukwu
