One Injured as Fire Guts Diesel Storage Facility in Anambra

One person has been injured after a fire gutted a diesel storage facility in Ndieze Nwankwo, along Edibros Road, Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.

The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, involving storage tanks containing diesel at the facility.

The Anambra State Fire Chief, Chiketa Chukwudi, confirmed the incident, saying the victim was rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

In a statement, Chukwudi said firefighters received a distress call at approximately 5:45 p.m. and immediately mobilised to the scene to contain the fire.

He explained that the response team successfully prevented the blaze from spreading further, although some of the storage tanks were affected.

The fire chief said the incident was suspected to be arson following allegations that an unidentified individual deliberately set the facility ablaze. However, he stressed that the actual cause of the fire remained unknown and was subject to investigation.

He added that firefighters concluded their operations and left the scene at 8:58 p.m. on Sunday.

Chukwudi advised residents to exercise caution when handling and storing petroleum products, urging members of the public to report fire emergencies promptly to enable a quick response and minimise casualties and property losses.

The incident adds to concerns over fire outbreaks involving petroleum products and storage facilities, which pose risks to residents and businesses in affected communities.
