CKC Onitsha Makes History: Today marks a historic achievement for Nigeria as Christ the King College (CKC) in Onitsha
emerged victorious at the prestigious World Affairs Challenge (WAC) 2024, clinching the coveted first-place position on the global stage.
This victory represents Nigeria’s first-ever gold medal in the competition’s 32-year history, highlighting the exceptional talent and innovative prowess of Nigerian youth.
Organized by WorldDenver, the World Affairs Challenge empowers high school students to address pressing global issues, including climate
change, poverty, and inequality, by developing innovative solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Led by their coach, Mr. John Onuigbo, CKC Onitsha’s team comprising Ekufu Ernest, Obuna Somtochukwu, Umeodinka Emmanuel, Ejike Ekene,
and Ubah Jason, impressed the judges with their impactful project titled “Wise Tales by Primus.” This project, a series of engaging digital comic stories, aims to raise awareness and inspire positive change among young people, addressing issues such as environmental degradation, climate change, and substance abuse.

CKC Onitsha’s journey to victory began at the African Regional Competition, where they emerged as the highest-scoring Nigerian team and
ranked in the top five in Africa. Their outstanding performance secured them a spot in the virtual global finals, where they showcased their
in-depth understanding and passionate delivery during the final Q&A session, leaving a lasting impression on the judges.
The judges commended the team for their excellent presentation and application of SMART indexes, along with their extraordinary action
plans for global outreach through language translation and website creative solutions dynamics, describing their project as innovative, creative, and illustrious.
Today, CKC Onitsha was officially declared the World Affairs Challenge 2024 Global Champion, surpassing teams from around the world.
Redmond High School, WA, USA, and TEVITÖL High School, Turkey, secured third and second place, respectively.

In response to the win, the school principal, Rev. Fr. Celestine Arinze Okafor, emphasized the significance of CKC Onitsha’s victory, highlighting the immense potential and innovative spirit of Nigerian youth. He praised the team for inspiring others to tackle global challenges with creativity and dedication, emphasizing the importance of supporting their project to reach millions of users.
Adding to the excitement, the CKC Onitsha team will travel to Denver, Colorado, USA, later this month for the award ceremony, further solidifying Nigeria’s position as a beacon of innovation and excellence on the global stage.
