Tragic Tanker Explosion on East-West Road Prompts Governor‘s Visit: The Executive Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State visited the scene of a tragic tanker
explosion in Eleme Local Government Area, accompanied by Commissioner for Police Olatunji Disu
and Commissioner for Energy Maximus Nwafor.
The explosion resulted in an unspecified number of fatalities and engulfed over 50 vehicles, some of which were burnt beyond recognition. After assessing the devastating aftermath, Governor Fubara directed security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation to aid the victims’ families.

Expressing his dismay over the incident, Governor Fubara stated, “Yesterday around 7-8pm,
we got information about a very serious inferno caused by a tanker conveying PMS.”
He emphasized the need for prompt action and support for the affected families. “From what we are seeing this morning, it was not a very pleasant case. We recorded a huge number of vehicles being destroyed and souls lost,” he added.
Governor Fubara also addressed the deteriorating state of the Eleme section of the
East-West road, highlighting the risks it poses to commuters. “We all know the situation of this road;
it is really unfortunate. Most of our people, when plying this road, do so with caution,” he lamented.

teams and protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Governor Fubara pledged to work closely with relevant authorities to address the
