Kano Mosque Bombing Claims 11 Lives: Tragedy struck on Wednesday at a mosque in Gadan Village, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State,

Nigeria, when a bombing incident occurred, claiming the lives of 11 people.

The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that three more

victims succumbed to their injuries on Thursday, raising the death toll from eight to 11.

According to the police spokesman, Abdullahi Haruna, the suspect, 38-year-old Shafi’u Abubakar,

sharing as the motive. Abubakar allegedly targeted the mosque where his perceived enemies were praying,

seeking revenge for what he believed was an unfair distribution of inheritance.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 1, Umar Sanda,

visited the victims at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and confirmed that the incident

was not related to terrorism but rather a result of a family feud. The suspect, who is currently

in police custody, used a locally-made bomb to commit the crime.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the suspect, Aminu, poured fuel inside the mosque,

locked the doors, and set off the bomb, trapping worshippers inside. One of the injured victims,

Sadik Kamal, recounted his desperate attempt to escape but found the exit doors securely locked.

He credited the latecomers who struggled to open the locked doors with saving those trapped inside.

Kamal alleged that Aminu had a history of violent behavior in the village, having previously

brandished a machete and threatened fellow villagers. Aminu was once arrested and sent to a

psychiatric hospital for evaluation but had also set ablaze his brother’s car and attacked him with a cutlass.

the victims

Zabiya Ibrahim, whose three uncles were among the victims, called for justice, disputing claims

of mental illness as the motive. She urged the government to hold Aminu accountable for

his actions to serve as a deterrent to potential culprits.

The police have assured that the suspect is providing useful information and is currently in their custody. The incident has left the community in shock, and the authorities are working to ensure that justice is served.
