JAMB clears air on HND Graduates NYSC Eligibility, Denies Responsibility

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted claims that it is responsible for preventing some Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates from participating in the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. According to a statement released by JAMB’s spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board has no authority or control over HND admissions and is therefore not to blame for the issue. The statement clarified that JAMB’s mandate is limited to determining matriculation requirements and conducting examinations for undergraduate admissions, as well as admissions to National Diploma and Nigerian Certificate in Education courses.

The Board emphasized that it is not responsible for examinations or selective processes for postgraduate courses or other courses offered by tertiary institutions. JAMB explained that some HND graduates were admitted to National Diploma (ND) programs without its knowledge, and its only involvement was to condone and endorse those admissions. The Board stated that it has no relationship with HND admissions and therefore cannot be held responsible for issues related to HND graduates’ eligibility for NYSC.

JAMB urged the public to disregard accusations leveled against it, as it has no mandate over HND admissions. The Board also warned that some individuals making false claims against it may be crossing into criminal territory, which it will address accordingly. The statement aimed to clarify JAMB’s position and correct misinformation circulating among HND graduates and the general public. By setting the record straight, JAMB sought to absolve itself of blame and emphasize its limited mandate in the admissions process.
