The National Assembly has dismissed claims circulating on social media that President Bola Tinubu is set to present the 2025 budget to a joint session on Wednesday. In a statement released on Tuesday, Dr. Ali Umoru, the Secretary of Research and Information at the National Assembly, labeled the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.
Umoru clarified that the legislative body has not yet approved the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), which must be in place before any budget presentation can take place. He further emphasized that all official announcements regarding the National Assembly should be communicated through authorized channels and warned against the spread of unverified information.
“The claim that the 2025 budget will be presented tomorrow is untrue. The necessary legislative procedures, including the approval of the MTEF and FSP, are still ongoing,” Umoru stated in the release.
The National Assembly also reaffirmed its dedication to transparent governance and urged media outlets and the public to verify information before dissemination. This clarification comes at a time when Nigerians are awaiting the formal presentation of the 2025 budget, which is expected to outline the government’s fiscal strategies and economic priorities for the upcoming year.
