Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport Secures NCAA Approval for Non-Scheduled Flights, Operations Begin December 15, 2024

The Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport (EAICA) in Ado-Ekiti has secured approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to commence non-scheduled flight operations on December 15, 2024. This milestone, confirmed in a letter dated December 11, 2024, addressed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji, marks the start of operations under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The initial six-month permit will extend from December 15, 2024, to June 15, 2025, allowing the airport to finalize necessary corrections from the NCAA’s previous inspections.

Yinka Oyebode, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, stated that the letter, signed by Acting NCAA Director General Capt. Chris Najomo, outlined requirements for compliance. These include coordination with essential service providers to guarantee Air Traffic Services, Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, Aviation Security, and Meteorological Services.

Previously, the Ekiti State Government established Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Service Level Agreements with federal aviation agencies to facilitate the airport’s operations. Under the current approval, the airport will accommodate private jets and chartered flights between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., while preparations for commercial flight operations are underway.

Governor Oyebanji celebrated the approval as a pivotal achievement for the state. He emphasized the project’s potential to drive socioeconomic growth and improve accessibility, reinforcing the state’s commitment to infrastructure development. Earlier this year, he assured stakeholders that the airport would be operational by year-end, and the NCAA’s approval affirms the state’s dedication to fulfilling that promise.

The project reflects a broader vision to position Ekiti State as a hub for economic activity, leveraging its strategic location and enhancing its connectivity with other regions.
