Deadly Explosion Strikes School in Abuja Suburb, Killing One and Injuring Four

A tragic explosion occurred at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, approximately 42 kilometers from Abuja city center, claiming the life of one student and injuring four others. The incident took place around noon on Monday, according to local residents who raised the alarm.

Emergency responders, including police bomb disposal units, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation, while the injured students were transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Details surrounding the explosion remain unclear, as the police have yet to issue an official statement. Efforts to contact Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory’s Command of the Nigeria Police, were unsuccessful.

A security source disclosed that the deceased student, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was reportedly carrying a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) when it detonated, injuring other students and causing panic within the school.

Reports indicate that the affected students had recently enrolled in the school, resuming classes on January 3, 2025. Attempts to reach the school authorities for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.

The incident has caused widespread concern among residents and parents, highlighting the urgent need for thorough investigations to determine the cause of the explosion and ensure the safety of educational institutions in the area.
