Donald Trump, the newly inaugurated 47th president of the United States, has issued an executive order establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The announcement was made through a White House statement on Tuesday, which outlined the objectives and framework for the new department.
The executive order highlights that DOGE will be tasked with implementing the “President’s DOGE Agenda,” which focuses on modernizing federal technology and software systems. This initiative aims to enhance government efficiency and productivity by leveraging advanced digital tools and strategies.
As part of this reorganization, the United States Digital Service (USDS) has been officially renamed the United States DOGE Service. The department will now operate directly under the Executive Office of the President, reflecting its strategic importance in driving technological reform within the federal government.
The White House statement described this change as a step toward streamlining operations and ensuring that technology plays a central role in governance. “The United States Digital Service is hereby publicly renamed as the United States DOGE Service (USDS) and shall be established in the Executive Office of the President,” the statement read.
Responding to the development, Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of X and Tesla, and a key figure within DOGE, expressed optimism about the initiative’s impact. Musk remarked, “There will be meaningful progress every week,” underscoring his commitment to driving consistent advancements in the department’s operations. This marks a significant move towards aligning federal governance with cutting-edge technological solutions.
