The National Disciplinary Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, has summoned former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and several others for questioning. The move comes as internal conflicts within the party escalate. Ikimi issued a statement on Thursday, revealing that those summoned are expected to appear before the Committee on February 12 at the Legacy House in Maitama, Abuja. The PDP’s internal tensions grew during the 2023 presidential election, with accusations of sabotage and calls for disciplinary action against members allegedly involved in anti-party activities.
In the statement, Ikimi explained that the PDP National Disciplinary Committee had reviewed five petitions submitted by party members. He said, “The Committee met on Wednesday, 5th February 2025, at the Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja, to fulfill its mandate under Section 57(1) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) concerning party discipline.”
Ikimi further clarified that the first set of petitions was directed at key members of the National Working Committee (NWC), but after careful review, the Committee decided to hold off on action against three NWC members to avoid undermining ongoing reconciliation efforts by the Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees.
The second set of petitions, which include complaints against former Governor Ortom and 10 others, as well as Senator Anyanwu, will proceed with inquiries. As a result, the Committee has called for the affected individuals to appear before it on February 12, 2025, at the Legacy House in Abuja.
Ikimi emphasized that both petitioners and the accused will have the opportunity to present their cases with witnesses. He also reminded party members that the National Disciplinary Committee is committed to fair and just hearings, encouraging those with legitimate grievances to use the Committee to address their concerns.
