A Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, has acquitted singer Abdulazeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, and music promoter Samson Balogun Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry, in connection with the death of singer Mohbad. Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje delivered the ruling on Wednesday after receiving legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Lagos, stating that there was no case to answer against the suspects.
The court also discharged Owodunni Ibrahim, known as Primeboy, and Opere Babatunde, Mohbad’s former manager. Despite clearing the four individuals, the DPP announced that it would proceed with prosecuting auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who treated Mohbad, and Ayobami Sadiq, one of Mohbad’s friends, for reckless and negligent actions under the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Mohbad, whose real name was Aloba Oladimeji lleriOluwa, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. His death sparked public outrage after allegations of harassment, bullying, and mistreatment surfaced, with videos showing Naira Marley and Sam Larry allegedly tormenting the singer. Following public outcry, both individuals were arrested but later granted bail. The police also exhumed Mohbad’s body for an autopsy, though a toxicology test could not definitively determine the cause of death, suggesting that a drug reaction might have been a contributing factor.
