Afenifere Urges President Tinubu to Enhance Security for NAFDAC DG Prof. Adeyeye Amid Life Threats

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has called on President Bola Tinubu to enhance security around the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, after she reported receiving threats to her life. In a statement issued by its Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere stressed that Adeyeye’s concerns about the dangers facing her and her staff should not be overlooked.

Omololu emphasized the vital role that Adeyeye plays in Nigeria’s fight against counterfeit drugs, harmful consumables, and criminal syndicates exploiting human suffering for profit. He declared that any threat to her life would be an attack on public health, national security, and the overall integrity of society. He further argued that Nigeria cannot afford to neglect those who put their lives at risk for the public good.

The group also called for heightened security for other key public officials, such as the Chairman of the EFCC and the head of the NDLEA, citing the increasing threat from criminal organizations. Afenifere suggested that these officials be provided with armored vehicles, specialized security personnel, and advanced surveillance systems. Furthermore, it insisted that the safety of their families must be ensured both during and after their tenure.

Afenifere warned that failing to take immediate action could embolden criminals and weaken Nigeria’s national institutions. The group urged President Tinubu to act swiftly to protect Prof. Adeyeye, her family, and her team, recognizing her sacrifices in serving the nation.
