Activist Condemns Anambra’s Kidnapping Epidemic
Activist Condemns Anambra’s Kidnapping Epidemic:Charles Ogbu, a prominent social media activist and journalist, has strongly
condemned the recent SBM Intelligence report that named Anambra
State as the epicenter of kidnapping in Nigeria. The report revealed
that between July 2023 and July 2024, 27 out of 36 states in Nigeria
paid ransoms to kidnappers, with Anambra State topping the list with
a staggering N350 million. Ogbu described this as a severe indictment
of Governor Charles Soludo, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies for their failure to address the issue.
In a Facebook post, Ogbu expressed his outrage and concern that
kidnapping has become a daily occurrence in Anambra State, with no one spared,
including clergy, businesspeople, and students. He criticized the conspiracy
of silence surrounding the issue, emphasizing that everyone in the state is aware
of the problem but has chosen to remain silent. Ogbu urged Governor Soludo to take immediate action, rather than waiting for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, to prevent further loss of vital areas of Igbo land to criminals.
the highlight
Ogbu’s post highlighted the severity of the situation, citing recent incidents, including the kidnapping of a man who had parked his car to buy suya and the robbery of almost all cars in a traffic jam. He emphasized that the silence of the people and the government is unacceptable and that it is time to speak out and demand action from those in charge. Ogbu drew inspiration from the tenure of former Governor Peter Obi, who tackled the issue head-on, and urged Soludo to follow suit before it’s too late.
