Akoko Raid: Army Takes Out Bandits, Recovers Arms in Ondo Operation

—–Says public cooperation remains crucial to ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralised two suspected bandits and recovered dangerous weapons during a tactical raid in Akoko North-East Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The operation, carried out by personnel of the 32 Artillery Brigade, took place on February 14, 2026, following credible intelligence about the movement of armed criminals along the Akunu–Auga Road.

According to a statement by the Brigade’s Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Major Irabor Njoka, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Auga swiftly mobilised and intercepted the suspects. A brief but intense gun battle ensued, leaving two of the armed men neutralised, while others reportedly fled the scene with gunshot wounds.

The Army disclosed that the operation was conducted in collaboration with operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, alongside local vigilante groups.

Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle with two magazines loaded with 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected hard drugs, charms, and ₦39,000 in cash.

Military authorities described the operation as a major boost in the ongoing fight against criminality in the state, stressing that troops will continue aggressive patrols, clearance operations, and inter-agency cooperation to flush out remaining criminal elements.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security agencies, noting that community cooperation remains key to sustaining peace and security across Ondo State.
