Atiku’s Spokesman Slams Keyamo Over Coat of Arms Criticism, Defends Ex-VP’s Presidential Ambition

Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has strongly criticized recent remarks by Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, who condemned Atiku for using the national Coat of Arms in his resignation letter from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Ibe labeled Keyamo’s comments as mere sycophancy and a distraction from more pressing national matters. He dismissed the accusation of impersonation, insisting that Atiku, being a former vice president, has every right to use the national symbol. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Ibe questioned Keyamo’s credibility and motives, implying that his statements were more about seeking political favor than addressing substantive concerns.

Ibe went on to remind the public that Atiku played a significant role in Nigeria’s transition from military to democratic rule, asking rhetorically where Keyamo was during those critical moments in the country’s history. He asserted that Keyamo’s focus on trivial matters like the use of the Coat of Arms only exposes a lack of seriousness in handling his responsibilities as Aviation Minister. According to Ibe, there are far more urgent issues in the aviation sector that require the minister’s attention, including poor infrastructure and faulty facilities at airports.

Highlighting the broader political landscape, Ibe accused the Tinubu administration of undermining democracy by trying to force all opposition parties into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), likening it to civilian dictatorship. He criticized the misuse of state institutions to pressure politicians and described it as detrimental to democratic values.

Regarding Atiku’s political future, Ibe reaffirmed that the former vice president remains committed to national development. He defended Atiku’s presidential ambitions, stating they are legitimate and rooted in a desire to improve the lives of Nigerians. He emphasized that Atiku’s extensive experience and skills make him a viable candidate for leadership and noted that changing political parties is not unprecedented in Nigerian politics.
