Release Nnamdi Kanu and Restore Regional Autonomy to Prevent Instability
Release Nnamdi Kanu and Restore Regional Autonomy to Prevent Instability: The United States Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVIDUSA) has issued a stern
warning to the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, regarding the country’s deteriorating political and security climate.
AVIDUSA, comprising influential former U.S. military personnel
of Igbo heritage, argues that Nigeria is on the brink of severe instability
and demands immediate action to address long-standing grievances.
The organization calls for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of
the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the restoration of Nigeria’s
regional autonomy as defined in the 1960/63 constitutional framework.
AVIDUSA believes that returning to this model would provide a framework for equitable governance and address socio-economic and security problems.

AVIDUSA’s President, Chief Dr. Sylvester Onyia, highlighted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s 2017 demands, which included upgrading Enugu airport, dredging River Niger,
and reviving moribund industries in the South-East and South-South.
Kanu had also threatened to demand a referendum on Biafrans’ status as foreigners in Nigeria if these demands were not met.
Onyia emphasized that Kanu’s demands were reasonable and that
his detention without authorization has led to loss of lives and suffering for Biafrans.
AVIDUSA stresses that restructuring Nigeria along the lines of the
1960-1963 Constitution is the only way forward, as agreed upon by both
the North and South.
the organisation
The organization takes pride in the South-East Development Commission,
which was established due to the change-agitation supported by IPOB and Kanu. AVIDUSA urges the Nigerian government to take immediate action to address the country’s challenges and prevent further instability.
