BREAKING NEWS: Tinubu Appoints Odusote as First Female Director-General of Nigerian Law School

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, with effect from January 10, 2026. The appointment is for a four-year tenure.

Dr Odusote, who is 57 years old, currently serves as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Law School. Her appointment makes her the first woman to head the institution since it was founded in 1962.

She will take over from the outgoing Director-General, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure comes to an end on January 9, 2026.

An accomplished legal scholar, Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, before proceeding to the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where she earned a PhD in Law. Her academic interests focus on public law and the administration of justice.

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since held several key positions, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She also had a brief stint as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

Throughout her career, Odusote has published widely in respected local and international law journals and has presented papers at numerous conferences on legal education. She has also served on various committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

In her new role as Director-General, Odusote will oversee the Law School’s academic leadership, administrative operations, and strategic planning across all campuses. She will also act as the main link between the institution and key legal bodies, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
