Census Will Be Credible, Due Process Will Be Followed – FG

—– Says accurate population data is critical to effective national planning, economic development and good governance.

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible, transparent and internationally acceptable national census, assuring Nigerians that due process will be strictly followed.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf.

He assured the commission of the full support of his ministry and its agencies, particularly in the area of nationwide sensitisation, once President Bola Tinubu formally proclaims a census date.

According to the minister, government-owned media organisations will be fully mobilised to encourage public participation and promote awareness before and during the exercise.

He further emphasised that a presidential proclamation remains the legal foundation for conducting the census, noting that all preparations are being aligned with global best practices to ensure credibility and public trust.

In his remarks, NPC Chairman Dr Aminu Yusuf said the commission is operationally ready for the exercise, adding that systems, logistics and personnel are being refined ahead of the census.

Yusuf called for sustained public enlightenment, noting that widespread awareness and trust are essential for a successful and inclusive census exercise.
