Dangote Group Refutes NNPC’s Claim of N898 per Litre Petrol Price as ‘Misleading
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently announced its purchase of petrol from the Dangote Refinery at N898 per litre. However, Dangote Group has labeled this
claim as “misleading and mischievous.” The NNPCL stated on Sunday that it
had dispatched about 300 trucks to the Dangote Refinery, a facility with a 650,000-barrels-per-day capacity, and that loading operations began that same day. According to NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, the price of petrol purchased from the refinery was N898 per litre, contrary to reports suggesting N760.
In response, Anthony Chiejina, the Chief Branding and Communications Officer
for Dangote Group, refuted the NNPC’s statement. He described it as an attempt
to misrepresent a major milestone in addressing Nigeria’s long-standing energy insufficiency.
Chiejina urged Nigerians to disregard the NNPC’s claim and await an official announcement regarding pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, which will be
in effect starting October 1, 2024. He emphasized that the current stock of crude at the
refinery was procured in dollars and sold to NNPCL in dollars, offering savings compared to the company’s current fuel imports.

Chiejina also assured Nigerians that Dangote Refinery is committed to ensuring
the availability of quality petroleum products and alleviating the persistent fuel
shortages experienced across the country. He affirmed that this action would ensure petrol reaches every local government area, regardless of how remote, marking a significant step towards
resolving Nigeria’s fuel scarcity crisis.
