The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Austin Okai, a prominent political activist and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Kogi State. His arrest is believed to have been carried out under the orders of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo. A video shared by SaharaReporters reveals heavily armed security personnel taking Okai from his residence in Abuja on Wednesday morning. Although the exact reason for his detention has not been officially confirmed, sources suggest that it may be connected to his outspoken criticism of the Kogi State government and its policies.
Okai has been a vocal critic of the administration in Kogi and has frequently challenged its governance. Despite this, the DSS has not made any formal statement regarding his arrest at the time of reporting.
In an interview with SaharaReporters, Okai’s wife shared that the DSS did not present an arrest warrant during the operation. She explained that the security agents arrived at their home in Abuja without showing any legal document, forcefully entering their property, and taking Okai away. She asked for a warrant, but the officers could not provide one. They only claimed to need him for questioning. Additionally, his gadgets were confiscated, and his wife expressed concern about the potential harassment he may be enduring.
