El-Rufai Joins ADC, Begins New Political Chapter After Leaving APC

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), solidifying his long-anticipated departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC). His registration was completed at the ADC office in U/Sarki Ward, where he was formally issued his membership card, marking the beginning of a new phase in his political journey.

El-Rufai’s decision comes months after he publicly resigned from the APC on March 10, citing deep dissatisfaction with the party’s trajectory. In his resignation letter, he stated that the APC had significantly deviated from the ideals and principles upon which it was founded. According to him, the party’s current leadership ignored critical internal issues and had become detached from the progressive values it once professed to uphold.

He explained that for nearly two years, he consistently raised concerns regarding what he viewed as the party’s worrying direction, but his warnings—made both privately and in public—were repeatedly dismissed. This, he said, confirmed that the APC was unwilling to confront the internal challenges affecting its cohesion and ideological clarity.

El-Rufai, who played a pivotal role in the 2013 merger that birthed the APC, lamented that the organisation had strayed from its founding vision. He argued that recent events further demonstrated that the party’s leadership was not prepared to correct its “unhealthy” internal environment.
