The Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Diaspora Matters, Barr. Olangwa Ezekwu, has disclosed the motive for the inclusion of diaspora committee in the Dr. Peter Mbah’s Governorship Campaign Council.
She noted that members of the committee will assist the campaign council in galvanising support of those living abroad.
Ezekwu, who doubles as Director, Diaspora Committee for Peter Mbah, stated this on Saturday while featuring on a political radio Programme, Freedom Square, on Solid 100.9 Fm, Enugu., anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.
According to her, those living in diaspora are citizens of the state, and as such, can campaign for any preferred candidate, stressing that they have contributed significantly to the economy of the state.
“We, Enugu indigenes living outside the country are citizens of Nigeria; we are interested in our county because we make a lot of contributions to the economy of Nigeria.
“In 2021, the diaspora remittance of $20bn to the nation’s economy was higher than Nigeria’s Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of $4.8bn.
“Those living outside Nigeria are powerfully influential, and have also impacted the lives of Enugu indigenes, as many persons depend on them for survival”, Ezekwu added.
While expressing the confidence of the Diaspora group on Mbah, she described the PDP guber candidate as a well-learned man, with knowledge, vision and plans to turn Enugu state around.
According to her, Enugu indigenes living abroad would assist Mbah, if elected, in attracting foreign investments to the state.
