Enugu State Government Working to Establish Persons with Disabilities: The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter MBA, has revealed that his administration is working with the State House of Assembly to
domesticate the Persons with Disabilities Law 2018.
The Governor made this known at the Enugu State Town hall Meeting hosted by the State Government in Enugu on
Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Old Government House, Abakaliki Road.
Responding to a passionate appeal made by Comrade Onyebuchi MBA, Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons
with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Enugu State Chapter, on the need to expedite action in implementing the Enugu State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Law 2023 which includes the establishment of Persons Living with Disabilities Commission as well as appointment of a senior special assistant to the Governor on Disabilities, the Governor revealed that his administration is very sensitive to the plight of Persons living with Disabilities. He also pointed out that in all the public buildings and infrastructures including the smart schools project, facilities for the welfare of Persons living with Disabilities have been factored in right from the point of policy formulation.
The Meeting
The two hall meeting themed: “issues in Governance: the Journey So Far”provided the opportunity for the Governor to once again brief Ndi-Enugu on his stewardship since he assumed the mantle of leadership of Enugu State nine months ago.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Governor who affirmed the fact that he has kept faith with the Citizen’s Chatter with Enugu People as enshrined in his campaign manifestoes. These include:
– transparency
– Accountability
– Openess
– Responsible Governance
– etc.
The Governor identified areas his administration has so far intervened in bringing governance closer to the people; such areas include:
The Smart Schools Project; Road Projects; Infrastructural Development; International Conference Center; Statewide Water Project; Development of 260 Level Two (2) Primary Healthcare Centers across all the Wards in the State; and many others.
The Town hall Meeting was well attended by different interest groups in the State, including the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
