Enugu Youths Urge Reconsideration of Nationwide Protest, Call for Dialogue with Government to Address Economic Hardship and Insecurity

Enugu Youths Urge Reconsideration of Nationwide Protest, Call for Dialogue with Government to Address Economic Hardship and Insecurity, Citing Concerns of Hijacking by Hoodlums and Premature Timing

The Enugu Innovative Youths, a group of young people from 17 local government areas in Enugu State, have publicly declared their stance on the proposed nationwide protest against economic hardship and insecurity in Nigeria. While acknowledging the justification for the protest, the group has appealed to Nigerians to reconsider and shelve the exercise in the interest of peace.

In a communiqué issued after their meeting in Enugu, the youths expressed concerns that the protest could be hijacked by hoodlums, leading to loss of lives and property. They argued that the protest is premature, especially in Enugu State, where the governor, Peter Mbah, is making significant impacts. The group believes that the timing of the protest is not right, as it may disrupt the progress being made in the state.

Instead of protesting, the group called on the federal and state governments to engage in dialogue with youths to address rising unemployment and poverty. They urged the government to listen to the concerns of young people and work towards finding solutions to the country’s challenges. The Enugu Innovative Youths believe that dialogue and engagement are more effective ways to address the problems facing Nigeria, rather than resorting to protests that could lead to violence and instability.

The group’s stance on the proposed protest reflects a desire for peaceful resolution of the country’s issues. They are committed to working with the government to find solutions to the economic hardship and insecurity facing Nigeria, and believe that dialogue is the best way forward.
