ESUT Teaching Hospital Suspends Staff Over Alleged Patient Misconduct

The management of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, has suspended one of its staff members over an alleged case of professional misconduct in the handling of a patient.

The hospital made this known over the weekend through its Public Relations Office, explaining that the decision followed reports that had surfaced in the public space concerning the incident.

According to the management, an immediate investigation has been launched into the allegation, with the affected staff member placed on suspension pending the outcome of a comprehensive inquiry.

The hospital stressed that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward any unethical conduct capable of jeopardising patient care or eroding public confidence in the institution.

In a statement attributed to the management, the hospital declared that practices such as extortion, requests for unauthorised payments, abuse of official position, or any behaviour that compromises the quality of care provided to patients are unacceptable, violate institutional standards, and will attract decisive disciplinary action.

The management also reiterated the Enugu State Government’s dedication to accountable and people-oriented healthcare services, noting that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah would not tolerate actions that diminish public trust in government-owned health facilities.

The statement further emphasised that the state government remains firmly committed to delivering efficient, transparent, and patient-centred healthcare, adding that Governor Mbah has consistently upheld a policy of zero tolerance for practices that weaken public confidence in public institutions.

Additionally, the hospital management praised members of the public for raising concerns and holding authorities responsible, while assuring residents of Enugu State that patient welfare and ethical medical practice remain central to its operations.

It concluded by expressing appreciation to the public for speaking out and reaffirming that the protection of patients’ rights, adherence to ethical standards, and respect for human life remain top priorities at Parklane Hospital.
